Helping Students Own Their Learning - Playlist 4 Yo Life

AIM: SKY Teachers will be able to use key tools, words, phrases, and routines to 
encourage students to own their learning and have a growth mindset. 
Through the use of a Classroom Playlist, teachers will learn how to have 
students keep track of and be invested in their classroom mastery. 



Quest #1 - What is a Playlist?

To introduce you to what a playlist is and how it works in our classroom, please watch the video below.

Afterwards, please respond to the questions in the Google Doc.








Quest #2 - You Can Learn Anything

To understand why Salman Khan will never tell his son he's smart, please watch the video below entitled "You Can Learn Anything". 



Afterwards, read the article "The Learning Myth: Why I'll Never Tell My Son He's Smart" by Salman Khan. 

Once finished, click the tweet button (looks like the image to the right) and tweet your thoughts on the video and article using the following guiding question: What does having a growth mindset have to do with why Salman Khan will never tell his son he's smart?

Quest #3 - Creating a Growth Mindset Classroom

To be able to create a classroom based on a growth mindset classroom, it's important to use "growth mindset" language in daily conversations.

Using the paper and markers in the center of your table create a poster illustrating a "growth mindset" phrase that you can post in your room. 

Quest #4 - Why Do We Need a Growth Mindset?


To be able to  identify a need for a growth mindset, please watch the video below about Mabou Loiseau the 8 year old Polygot who speaks 8 languages and plays 8 different instruments.

Task #5 - Growth Vs. Fixed Mindsets


To be able to distinguish between a growth and fixed mindset, please read the article and info-graphic on "Science Shows How The Brains of Intelligent, Successful People Are Different From Everyone Else" by Tom McKay. 

Afterwards complete the Quizlet below to test your knowledge of a Growth Vs. Fixed Mindset.
